5 ways to beat the rise in petrol

Since 2009 UK motorists have seen a 23 per cent increase in petrol prices which is adding £11 per tank for the average car. So after the resent 2p rise in petrol prices, motorists are hunting for ways to make the most out of this pricey petrol. Here are a few we think could help.

5 ways to save on petrol prices

  1. Stay at a steady speed, doing 56mph uses 25 per cent less fuel than 70mph
  2. Reverse parking, driving forwards after switching the engine on will use less fuel

  3. Remove items you don't need from your car to increase fuel economy by up to six per cent

  4. In a petrol car change gear at 2,500rpm or 2,000rpm if it's a diesel

  5. Each week and before a long journey check the pressure in your tyres, it could increase fuel economy by up to ten per cent

Indian cabbie drives backwards

With Indian being one of the worst countries for motoring accidents, it doesn't come as a surprise that the large number of incidents maybe caused by donkeys and cows roaming the roads, dodgey road surfaces and wacky drivers.

For a nation that fails to follow any regimented road rules, a 30-year old Indian cab driver, Harpreet Devis no exception to that rule. Devis' has found fame in his hometown of Punjab for his wacky driving skills.

After returning from a party one night and finding that only his reverse gear on his Fiat Padmini was working. He took the initiative to drive the whole way home, backwards! In true champion style he has renamed his car “Back Gear Champian”, and re-designed the gearbox with 4 reversing gears and one forward gear.

He has benn reported to be suffering from pains in the neck and severe backbone problems. However his huge leap to fame after turning his career around, for this wacky cabbie, surely there's no going back!!

Cops play robbers!

Police have new plans to clamp down on car crime. Breaking into drivers cars and stealing their possessions seems to be the answer!

Officers in Richmond are breaking into cars that appear to have valuables, removing them and leaving the drivers with 'crime prevention' notes. But fear not, they then go on a search in the local area to find the driver and return their items. If they fail to find the driver all the CD players and Sat navs are taken to the local police station. How very kind of them!

The scheme started last week in Richmond and already there has been controversy from local residents. Do the police really have the right to steal others belongings? Surely any thief that was caught would say 'I was planning on returning them!' well isn't that exactly what the police are doing?

What do you think about the scheme?

Trim maintains the beauty of the DBS and DB9 but replaces the V12 engine with an electric motor, powered by a fuel-cell stack comprised of hydrogen. Before Aston Martin followers start ranking about electric cars they maybe interested to know; Trims intention to ensure the Volare would be accepted in the Aston family, “The Volare would retain the fantastic sound and outright performance customary with that of a petrol equivalent".

So fear not, the Volare will still be recognised as an Aston by it's classy curves and it's roaring engine. Trim says “It would provide drivers the world over with equal amounts of guilt-free motoring.”

So just before the summer's out, why not take all the family to Legoland Winsdor to catch a glimpse of the 'Top Gear' team. Only one question remains, where's 'Top Gear Dog'?
